Well! I hope to have 42 baby chicks in three weeks, I put in the incubator when I got home from church 42 eggs.  I bought a doz hatching eggs, I was given a doz and I filled the rest of the slots with eggs from my hens.  I did have to use a few from the fridge and from what I have read they should hatch, I hope that the hour I let them sit in a room temp area was enough.  Still we will have to see how things go, the kids are excited and I am excited and my husband shakes his head and laughs at me.  I LOVE my husband so much because for the most part he let’s me have my animals and doesn’t get too upset about it.  I’ll have to see if I can get a picture of all the eggs, I marked the ones that are from my hens so that I could sort of keep and eye on thoses.

I found a RAT, YES!!! You read right A RAT

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RATS, I don’t mind seeing them in the pet stores but I can’t stand them.   I mean CAN’T STAND THEM, same goes for MICE.

I went out to get eggs this morning after dropping kids off at school; and I found the loaf of bread I stuck out there last night, behind the nesting boxes.   I looked up and came face to face with a very large RAT; it must be a female that is ready to have little rats, as there was a very nice nest that I tore apart. You should have also seen all the food that I found back there as well, I could have fed the chickens for a week.   I wonder if this is why I didn’t get eggs a few days ago; or  if it is a combo of the cold and the rat, for two days I only got one egg or there just wasn’t any eggs..

I guess I am going to have to put out some rat bait; and redo how I have my nest boxes, as I do not want to encourage the rat.  Just the thought of it being around gives me the heeby jeebys.   Where is a nice rat snake when you need one?

I do have cat’s but guess that is not enough;  we had a dog, but I am not sure that even if she was still around that she would have gotten a rat.

I love cooking; there just something relaxing about it.   I LOVE making homemade bread and when I got a bread machine, I LOVED it even more.    For Christmas one year my mother in law gave me a bread machine cook book, it is called the Giant of bread machine recipes by Norman A Garrett.  One of the recipecs I like out of it is the following.

Bran Bread
Use the wheat setting on your bread machine

1 1/2 pound loaf

2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 1/4 cup  bread flour ( I use regular flour)
1 1/4 cup wheat flour
3/4 cup wheat or oat bran
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoon Brown sugar
3 Tablespoon butter or margarine
9 ounces warm water

1 pound loaf

1 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast
3/4 + 2 tablespoon flour
3/4 + 2 tablespoon wheat flour
1/2 cup oat or wheat bran
1 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoon brown sugar
2 Tablespoon butter or margarine
