Spring Planting

Posted by kat | Posted in Gardening(herbs, flowers, veggies and trees) | Posted on 24-01-2010

Today I put in a row of pea’s, I need to go buy some more pea’s and other seeds that should be in the garden.  I am about a week behind due to all the bad and cold weather we have had, but I am so glad that I can start planting again.   I hope to stagger my plants, plant a row or two then plant another row or two until I have all the row’s that I want.   I also need to go get some fertilizer so that I can till it into the dirt and try and add some nutriments to the soil.   I still have several trees that I need to dig up or cut down so that I can use the full size of my garden.

Pre Spring Planting

Yesterday because it was a nice day, I worked in the garden.  Today looks like it is going to be a nice day, so I plan on working out in the garden some more.  One of the things I worked on yesterday is a stand for my pea’s to grow up, I usually use fencing and then they sort of grow over the top and down the other side.  I took two twin box springs that broken(The wood slats broke) and then I covered it with a all-purpose fencing, large enough for the pea’s to climb.  I got the idea from a friend of ours, she made them with four 2×4’s.  It looks like a giant A, and I think it is going to be great and I might also be able to plant something in between the opening maybe something like lettuce or radishes.  that way I am using my space wisely.   I’ll take some pictures and post them.  Have I mentioned how much I love to GARDEN?

What a Nice Suprise to find onions growing

Posted by kat | Posted in Gardening(herbs, flowers, veggies and trees) | Posted on 18-01-2010

Today was the first nice day we have had in weeks, I usually already have my garden ready to plant, and so today I went out and worked in it.  I got a nice surprise of finding baby onions, last year I planted two sets( set has 50 plants) and I only got very small onions off of them and most of them didn’t even make it.  I carefully dug them up and transplanted them to where I wanted to plant onions this year.  It’s nice having plants already planted in the garden and not having to do as much work.  I am going to plant the lettuce, radishes and spinach this week if it stays nice.

A few ways to earn a little extra $$$

Posted by kat | Posted in Money | Posted on 18-01-2010

With money tight for just about everyone, WHAT can be done to help earn a few extra here and there?  When I was pregnant with my second child, I did lots of filling out surveys and I also did Secret Shopping, the later paid for most of our date nights.

All you have to do is google search get paid to take surveys, and you will find ton of sites.  If they ask you to pay DO NOT USE THEM.  I can’t remember off the top of my head the places I use, or the last time I filled one out.  But when I was filling them out I would get at least $5.00 a survey.
Here is just one of the sites I have used before http://tryvindale.com/VZUsZfkJ   You will also find links here http://www.volition.com/opinions.html

Again if they ask you to pay, DO NOT USE THEM.  There are enough out there that do not require you to pay them first, that you don’t need those kind of places.   The best list I have found and I have used the site is http://www.volition.com/mystery.html or for just the list of companies www.volition.com/mysteryUSA1.html

I recommend if you don’t already have a pay pal account, that you set one up, some companies actually will hire people that prefer to get paid with paypal then a check.

Cool Money Saving Programs

I know there are several places out there to save your money.  I have been using ING Direct, since 2003 and I love it.  It let’s me set up Automatic Saving Plans, and they have a pretty decent interest rate.  It is still higher then what you would see at most banks, they have a referral program that they give you $5.00 for each person up to $500.     They use to have a referral code, but now you must send out invites.

I recently found Mint.com, this is a handy program to track spending, it also let’s you set limits and then alerts you when you go over.
