I Told You So!!!

Posted by kat | Posted in Family Happenings | Posted on 29-11-2010

I am not sure why I TOLD YOU SO!!!!  Seems to be one of the most said expressions ever in our family, but it is.   Saturday I sent the kids outside to play, it was a fairly nice day and they had way more energy than they needed.  After being outside for a few mins, one of the kids stuck  their head in and said MOMMY, So and so is hurt and they need you BAD.   It ends up that my kids decided to jump on the trampoline with their shoes on, I had already stuck my head and and told them to remember to take their shoes off, if they planned on jumping on the trampoline.  My kids as usual did not listen, and thus one of the kids ended up with a twisted ankle.  We ice packed it and kept it wrapped except for at night and also make the child stay off the foot.

When it still hurt today, I made an dr app and they said it was SPRAINED and to get crutches so the child could get a round.  I had already given the child, the cane my husband uses for getting upt’s  and down after the back surgery.  My oldest was whiny and I finally got so tired of hearing it that I said suck it up.
If it is not better by Wed, I am supposed to have it X-Rayed to make sure it is not broken in some way.

What with everything else that is going on, this is really all I need.

Monthly Food Storage Kits

I have been seriously looking into the monthly food storage kits, and after looking at several sites, comparing and talking to people.  I went with Augason Farm, it was nice to do a monthly plan and pick what I wanted in the kits.   I actually put two of their kits together, so I will do it over 2 year’s, instead of one as I wanted a good mix of things.

The customer service was very nice and the gentleman that helped me was VERY HELPFUL!  He went way above and beyond what I expected to make sure that I got the best kit, for my budget and for my family needs.  I told him I didn’t want to spend less than $25.00 and no more than $75.00 a month.  He asked just the right questions, such as If I had a garden, if this was to start, supplement and or finish my food storage and how many I was going to be feeding.   He even went as far as to calculate what I would need for a family of five and that there were both adult’s and children.   I do wish they had a better selection’s of Hot Coco, but all in all I am beyond excited to be getting the kits and can’t wait until it comes in.

Christmas In The South

Posted by kat | Posted in Family Happenings | Posted on 26-11-2010

This year for Christmas, my whole family is coming in except for one of my brother in laws who has to work.   I am excited to see my neices and nephews, and to be able to spend some time my with family, even if we are chaotic at best sometimes.   With my family(5), My oldest sister’s family (6) My next oldest sister’s family(4) My younger brother (2), My youngest brother(2) my grandmother and my parents(2) we will have 22  of the 23 people here for Christmas.    This year I am trying to make as many of the Christmas presents as possible, some of the people I am going to have to buy some of the supplies to make the things, but for most of them I already had the items on hand to make things.  Some of the items are going to be family gifts, to help with the having to take so much stuff back with them.

I know I have mentioned it before,  we have some family traditions that when we were younger were lots of fun.  We make potato pancakes for breakfast, we then open one present and our stockings.   We eat, clean up and start on the presents.  Someone then passes one present to each person and we each open it one at a time, we are not allowed to RIP the paper, unless we have asked first if it looks like it has been heavily used.  We reuse the paper a lot, I swear I have seen paper from when I was a kid.   We usually stop for lunch with is more potato pancakes,  we pick up where we left off, we might even stop for naps and or a family puzzle.  We have been known to end Christmas present at 10PM.  Sometimes my mom has been known to find more presents when she is cleaning up, so sometimes we even have Christmas the next day.

I have been POSSESED, I am listening to CHRISTMAS MUSIC.

OK, It’s not like you think.  I am not possesed by some evil mean spirited spirit. OK! Maybe I have been possesed by an evil spirit in a way.  I WILL ADMIT IT, I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO CHRISTMAS MUSIC AND IT’S NOT EVEN AFTER THANKSGIVNG YET.  OK!!! I don’t mean to shout and over use the caps key, but DANG IT!!!!!!! I am frusterated that for once I broke my own rule and listend to Christmas music early.  It happened very innocently, I SWEAR.  It happens that on the way to school, the kids and I play I Spy, and then they wanted to listen to music.  Usually it is the Not Your Mother LDS Music CD that I have( have another one, but it seems to be lost) and so we started alternating between the music and the playing I Spy, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, and then swaping so the next day is music and then I spy.   So how did we get from listening to a cd to listening to Christmas Music(which is not on CD) I got tired of listening to the same ten songs, don’t get me wrong, they are very nice songs and very uplifting, but when you here them everyday for weeks, it get’s old.  So now it is one day the CD, and the other radio, which is how we came to be listening to Christmas songs, before Thanksgiving had even arrived.    I truly felt guilty about listening to the music, so laying in bed one night next to my husband.  I rolled over looked and him and of course being the nutcase that I can be sometimes, said in a very serious0 voice.  WE NEED TO TALK.  You have to realise that when I do it this way it totally drives my husband nuts, and not in the good way.   He says I make it sound so much like a life or death thing,  I really don’t mean to, I just can’t seem to help myself.   To make matter’s worse I ended up having my husband humming Christmas song right along, and WE both never listen to Christmas song until at least after Thanksgiving, and I even let the kids clean their room to Christmas songs.

This year for Thanksgiving, we only have my inlaws to go to, usually we do lunch with them and then dinner with my parents.  My parent’s are going to be out of town this year, so we will celebrate with them at a later date.   I am making a pumpkin cake(my husband’s family doesn’t like pumpkin pie) and I will make green bean casserole and sweet potatoes, from the ones I grew myself.

This year, while it has been crazy I have lot’s to be thankful for, and sometimes I do not realise that I haven’t taken the time I should to remember that.
My kids for the most part have been doing well in shcool, which is an improvment from last year
I was sick a lot ( I thought I kept getting a cold) so I went to my dr, and when that didn’t help much, a friend told me to go see an allergist and found out I am supposedly allergic to dust mites and a mold only found in Georgia.  ( I say supposedly as they don’t seem to effect me, until I am dusting or deep cleaning the house)
My husband had to have back surgery, to fix an old injury, we went through lots of red tape to finally get it to happen. (Insurance denied it twice, we had to do a peer to peer apeal)
My husband has a good steady job and I am thankful that it will let us pay of the medical bills, even if it takes us a year or two.  (All said and done, his surgery ended up being over $120K before insurance)
I have a roof over my head and food on the table
I have family and friends that are there for me when I need them and sometimes even when I don’t think I need them
